It is a rectangular block of wood with a carved relief of the letter "M" or "W" (movable typeface). The relief is brown, auburn and orange. The original coat of varnish is still evident. The carved down portion is a matte black and red. The back surface is almost entirely covered in glued on yardstick. The paper is yellow and frayed/worn and coming away from the wood. The aper is also marked with faded red and dark blue pigment. The wood that is not covered in paper is discoloured and marked with pigment.
