It is a rectangular block of wood with a carved relief of the letter "V" (movable typeface). The original coat of varnish is still evident on the relief surface and the pigment has naturally darkened with time and use. The grain of the wood is still evident in some areas. The relief is dark red and the carved down portion is a dull red. The old accession number is also written on the bottom edge in permanent marker. The back is discoloured and varnished. Marked with auburn, red and black pigment. Fingerprints in pigment evident on back.
