Block, Wood

Artefact

2018.1.33b
King, Andrew
1912 – 1958
It is a rectangular block of wood with a carved relief of the number "8". The relief surface is stained dark orange and the boarders dark red. The carved portion is stained dark red. The relief appears to be buffed or polished. There is a faint horizontal zig zag line between the two circles of the "8". The circles of "8" are disproportionately small in comparison. The old accession number is on the left side edge. A groove is evident on the bottom edge. The corresponding tongue could be on 2018.1.42. On the back there are drops, smudges, strokes and horizontal faded lines of ink. A piece of paper is glued on the top left side, however beginning to lift away from the block at the edges. It must have been there a while as it is similarly stained/marked as the rest of the block.
