It is a rectangular wood block with a carved relief of the number "1" backwards. The surface is stained with burgundy ink. The surface of the relief appears to be polished or buffed. On sections of the relief the grain and colour of the wood is evident as if buffed or worn off. The old accession number is written on the bottom edge in permanent ink and on a sticker. On the back the edges/ sides are stained with dark red and black ink. There are also drops, smudges, strokes and horizontal faded black lines of link.
