Brown Rock Core

Brown Rock Core

Artifact

1996.x.121
Brown rock core with a smooth bottom, and an uneven top. The sides are chipped away to sharp edges. Cores are considered the "parent" rock used to create stone tools. The uneven texture is the result from the stone being worked at in order to break off flakes, which then later are constructed into the desirable tool. The smooth side contains small semi-circular shaped marks, likely from the rock being struck multiple times.
