Charcoal fluting or flatiron. The iron has a chimney to insert charcoal, and a revolving gate on the other end to remove ashes. There is a removable curved fluting iron attached to the top, as well as a turned wood handle. The iron was made by H. S. Pease, patented on August 14 1888, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

"Patented Aug 14 1888" is in relief on the revolving end gate, and "H. S. Pease // Cincinnati, Ohio" is in relief on the iron.
