*Picture Block* tongue and groove rectangular wood block. Front: block has been stained red, and NOTE: most likely part of a 3 piece set (although it hasn't been catalogued with its counterparts). The top half of the block appears to have relief design that help to provide detail to a woman's face in front of a ferris wheel. The rest of the designs are indistinguishable from their larger design. Beginning in the bottom left corner is a cluster of relief lines and shapes which make a "X" design and covers an area of 12.3cm wide by 13cm long. The lines within this cluster could be an outline of a tent but without the full picture it is difficult to tell. Above this is a small circle (1.6cm wide) To the right of the circle (approximately 5cm) is a line and 2 triangles in a vertical line up. Line--2cm long by 0.5cm wide and 2 triangles-- 1.0cm by 1.0cm: the first points down, the second to the right. 7cm above the "x" design, attached to the edge is an "r" shaped design measuring--7cm long by 4.5cm wide by 1.5cm (line thickens). 7cm above the "r" is a larger design (square at left edge) measuring 6.5cm long by 4.5cm wide attached to what is believed to be a rung of the ferris wheel which curves towards the center 4.5cm long by 14cm wide. Directly above this rung (11.2cm from the left edge) is a small circle 2cm in diameter. The final section attached to the left side is also part of the ferris wheel and measures 9.3cm long by 15cm wide and begins 6.5cm from the top left corner. The next section begins 5.7cm from the left edge and 2.3cm down from the top edge and is a triangular like shape measuring 21cm long by 9.3cm wide. To the right of this section (attached to right edge) is a very long shape with lines carved into it to define the ferris wheel. 9cm wide by 32cm long. The width varies depending on which section you look at. This shape begins 2.4cm from the top right corner. Between these last 2 sections is the relief design of a woman's lips and part of her hair: lips 2cm wide by 1cm long, hair-- 4cmwide by 3cm long. Below the long right edge design is a cluster of three shapes in an area 8cm wide by 6cm long. The triangle is attached to the right edge with 4 rectangles to the left of it separated into 2 rows. Beneath the triangle is a circle that is 2.5cm in diameter. The rest of the block is recessed wood, carved with a circular headed tool. The red stain is far more concentrated on the relief sections. For greater detail please see attached detail photos. Sides: residual red stain near the front edges as well as black marks within the wood grain. Back: "No. 94" is stamped in the center in purple ink and "Red" is handwritten in pencil above it. Residual yellow and red stain spots across the back. More dark marks within the wood grain.
