Picture Block*** The tongue and groove technique is used to join the wood together. Front: rectangle block stained dark blue. The image on the front is made from very intricate outlines of relief wood across the block. The first image that first draws the eye is that of a woman blowing a bugle; she takes up the full right side of the block. The outline is only of her top half. She is wearing a band uniform including a hat, and is holding up the bugle with her right hand; her left arm is at her side, the bottom half (below her elbow) being cut off by the bottom edge of the block. There is a cap on each of her shoulders with tassels hanging from them. The torso of her jacket has a military band design up the middle in the final product after all the blocks are put together (a,b,c); there are 4 horizontal lines that cross the vertical line up the front with 3 sided clasps on each end. On this specific block there are no horizontal lines, there are only the 3 relief dots that are on the clasps at each side. From 1 clasp to the other measures 6.0cm to 8.5cm. It is 22.6cm from the bottom of her torso to the top of her neck where the collar of the uniform ends. The base of her torso is 13.2cm across. It is 10.0cm from her chin to the top of her forehead. It is 11.9cm from the tip of her nose to the back of her head. Her hat has a 9.5cm long strap that goes under her chin; the strap is 1.2cm wide. The hat is a 4.5cm (tall) by 9.1cm (long) rectangle with a small visor that continues 1.8cm past her face. There is a pompom on the top of the hat . From the tip of her lips to the end of the bell of the bugle measures 21.9cm. The bell itself is 9.0cm tall, and 3.7cm wide. Her right hand holding the bugle is 5.5cm long. The other image in the foreground is a clown's face holding his left ear as if to listen. His face is 14.2cm from ear to ear. It is 15.6cm from the top of his head to the bottom of his chin. There is a small hat on the left part of his head 6.5cm across and 5.9cm tall. His hand is 6.5cm across. The rest of the background is an intricate outline of a fair scene. There is the top right half of a ferris wheel 16.0cm tall and 8.5cm wide along the left side near the top. To the right is a distant skyline of tents. The main tent has 2 columns on the sides and a rounded top with a small point at the top. Each column has a flag pointing left on top. This tent is 7.6cm long, and the middle section is about 3.5cm tall. There are 4 light beams shining out from behind this tent that are recessed. The first (far-left) goes from the left column to the left edge of the block and is 4.6cm wide at the edge. The light beam to the right goes to the top edge and is 6.0cm wide at the edge, the third is 2.6cm wide at the top edge, and the fourth is 4.4cm at the top edge. Below the tent where the light beams come out of is a much larger tent 9.5cm wide and 12.9cm tall that slightly resembles a carousel. There is a 5.5cm long flag on its top. Below this top is a recessed circle 4.7cm in diameter. Below this circle to the right is the middle portion of another tent 13.5cm wide and about 6cm tall. Except for a 1.6cm wide band across this tent is striped. Sides: there is a label on the left side near the bottom with the previous temporary number written on it. Back: "Top" is written in pencil at the top, and "Blue" is handwritten in pencil upsidedown across the middle. Above this the previous temporary number is written in pencil, and above that "No. 406" is stamped in purple ink. There is a strip of masking tape in the top left corner making a 90 degree angle with the point towards the edges of the block. Both incisions are 2.5cm long.
