Atlatl Projectile Point (2000 bp)
Artifact
1999.24.28
2000 bp
Projectile point, likely made of quartzite. The base is straight and smaller than the rest of the point. The point also has side notches, and outwardly rounded edges up to the tip.
Given the size and shape, this is likely an atlatl dart point. Atlatls or spearthrowers were used to hunt smaller game, and were popular during the Middle Period, 7500 to 2000 years before present (BP). In terms of specifics, this is possibly a Bracken/Bratton point from 2,800 to 2,200 years before present, or a Besant point from 2,100 to 1,500 years before present (BP).~root~>
