Atlatl Projectile Point (3000 bp)
Artefact
2007.16.1j
3000 bp
Pale yellow projectile point. The point has a concave base, side notches, and rounded edges to the tip. The notches are quite small and shallow while the ears are pronounced and round.
Given its length and shape, this seems to be an atlatl point rather than a spearpoint or arrowhead. Atlatls or spearthrowers were used to hunt smaller game, and were popular during the Middle Period, 7500 to 2000 years before present (BP). Looking more at details, the specific shape of the point resembles that of Oxbow points from about 4,700 to 3,800 years before present, or Sandy Creek points from 2,450 to 1,950 years before present (BP).~root~>
